Job Description
The laboratory of Teresa Puthussery at the University of California, Berkeley is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to study the structure and function of retinal circuits in health and disease. We combine two-photon calcium imaging, electrophysiology and molecular methods to understand how different retinal cell types and circuits encode visual information in the normal mammalian retina.
We also study models of photoreceptor degeneration to determine:
1) how retinal circuit structure and function is altered by photoreceptor loss and
2) whether cell-based therapies can be used to restore vision after photoreceptor death.

The Candidate
Applicants should have (or soon have) a doctoral degree in neuroscience, molecular and cell biology, vision science, bioengineering or a related discipline. Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred: electrophysiology (patch-clamp or multielectrode array), calcium imaging, advanced microscopy methods (two-photon, confocal, light-sheet microscope, super resolution, electron) or functional data analysis. Experience with functional recordings in retina or other CNS tissues is desirable, but not essential. The candidate should have excellent time management and project-management skills.
